SEE WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU
TALK TO THE WEATHER GODS!

by Gil Gilfix, Executive Director

From the crack of dawn to the end of the show, we couldn't have had a better day. When I got to the field the whole place seemed to be buzzing with activity.
Registration was working. Shuttle busses were moving people. Vendors were setting up for the day. And using the "controlled chaos approach," our SCCA and Packard folks placed 387 cars on the field in less than two hours.

Many, many people were instrumental in making our Concours a huge success this year. While I don't have space to mention everyone, I would like to give special recognition to some.

A special Thank You to Otis Chandler, our Honorary Chairman, and to the Nethercutt Collection for bringing absolutely beautiful examples of Packards from their collections. A huge Thank You to Marshall Mathews for all his efforts in A) bringing nine of his Packards and B) announcing the main field rolling exhibit and C) organizing the Gallery of the Greats exhibit. And most importantly, cudos to Vic Nelson for all his work as the Packard Chair. Vic worked for months and months to insure that the Concours would have the best examples of Packards and it was obvious his efforts were rewarded.

The phone calls, e-mails and letters we received told me that our vision for the Concours is correct, that what we accomplished is what our entrants, sponsors, and public expected. We will work harder to make our Concours a real two-day event by offering a truly upscale Saturday driving tour next year and, considering we had 50 cars in this yearŐs drive, we donŐt have to worry too much.

Our thanks, once again to Stanford University and the members of the Athletic department for their support. And to the many Lions Clubs, Kiwanis, JC's, charities, and volunteers who worked with us to make our show such a success. We are truly indebted.
