REMEMBER THE BIG PICTURE By: Gil Gilfix Executive Director | |
|
One of Webster's definitions of "perspective" is "the capacity to view things in their true relations or
relative importance. In other words, it's really
important to remember the big picture!
Over the last four years, we have had four successful shows. At the same time, other Concours - for many number of reasons - have disappeared. Internal problems, loss of a sponsor or a site, or lack of interest are just some of the reasons. Whatever the reason, it's still a loss to the community, to the charities, and to the the owners of collector cars. In the fickle world of Concours, what makes for a good show is sometimes difficult to understand. Internally, the issue is do the organizers have a clear vision of what their show represents. Palo Alto understands its limitations. Externally, success or failure hinges on individuals and the little things, i.e., too much dust or a registration line that is not properly prepared. The point is, we do worry about the little things and, that way, most people are very comfortable at our show. Remembering the big picture for Palo Alto is relatively easy. we have a great crew that works the year around, a site that is perfect for a Concours, sponnsors who think we're doing the right thing, entrants who bring great cars to our show, a willingness to share our success with other Concours, and enough sense to treat everyone as our special as our special guest. That, folks, is the big picture. |
