MAGAZINE ARTICLES Palo Alto Welcomes Lincoln & Jaguar |
WHAT'S NEW By: Gil GilfixExecutive Director Palo Alto is always looking for new ways to entertain and delight, and I'd like to tell you about two of the new exhibits we'll be presenting this year. You might check the fact sheet on page four for more highlights. One of our folks suggested we do a special exhibit of the late model Japanese imports. We weren't sure what he envisioned but, after his vivid explanation, we understood. We are calling our exhibits JAPANESE MICROCARS and we are going to find 12 of the most interesting Hondas and Mitsubishis in the bay area for the show. The owners typically modify the engine, wheels, suspension, interior, and paint. In fact, the only think that's original equipment is the cigarette lighter. So the next time you are startled by a growling exhaust note and a Honda Civic with an exhaust extension as big as your forearm comes alongside, watch out! We are also creating an exhibit of VINTAGE MOTORCYCLES featuring motorcycles from the Otis Chandler Collection. Mr. Chandler was the Honorary Chair of last year's Concours and was kind enough to offer his collection for this year's show. Local collectors will be contacted and asked to add their special bikes to the exhibit so it should be a wonderful addition to the show. By the way, if you're interested in showing your vintage bike, please call Marshal Mathews at (650) 856-6200. He's organizing the exhibit. If you've driven by the Concours site on El Camino Real recently, you saw a huge pile of diret on the spot where the Patrons Pavilion usually sits. NHot to worry! The dirt will be used to create bleacher seating for the softball field and everything should be back to normal well before the Concours. Stanford has completed construction on all of the promenades and upgraded Masters Grove, so everything should be ready to go for June 25th. And finally, since we live in a computer-driven world, our web site (www.paconcours.com) will have the application for entries available in March. Those who are computer challenged will receive the application in the mail during the first week of May. And, like I said last year, talk to the weather gods. It's really important! |
