SPREADING THE WORD We decorated the booth with posters from past shows and gave away old programs, posters and a fact sheet for this year's show. But the crowning touch was putting a bright red 1975 Lamborghini Countach in the booth. It was the only exotic in the show so, after walking the huge Convention Center and looking at all the new cars (that looked to same,) most of the folks did a double take when they spotted the Lamborghini. Particularly the kids! They knew more about the car than their parents did. We also had Dr. Bob Kradjian, one of our exhibitors, bring a couple of his miniature engines on Saturday and Sunday which made our booth even more interesting. Dr. Bob and the Bay Area Engine Modelers (BEAM) will be showing 20 or more miniature engines as the Concours While most of the time was spennt shmoozing about the Concours, those of us who worked at the show were able to do some great networking. Some of us talked to auto manufacturer's representatiaves. Others talked to members of car clubs to make sure their clubs were on our mailing list. We even did some recruiting for some of the areas where we could use help. (See the last page.) An advertising guy once said, "go fishing where the fish are" and he was certainly on the mark - especially when you use a Lamborghini as bait. |
