2009 PALO ALTO CONCOURS d'ELEGANCE EXPANDED GREEN CAR EXHIBITTO INCLUDE THE STANFORD ELECTRIC & TESLA CARS |

The Palo Alto Concours d'Elegance on June 28 will host a larger than before special exhibit of green cars, from fuel sipping gasoline or clean burning Diesel cars to hybrids and electrically powered cars, plus a one-off solar powerd car designed and built at Stanford. Tesla will be present with two roadsters in the exhibit and eight more in the Car Corral; Toyota with its Prius and Highlander, Mercedes-Benz with its D-Tec Diesel as will Calcars with their Prius with additional batteries which stretches gas mileage to 100 MPG. Coulumb Technology of San Jose will be in the exhibit with its electric charging station which will be provided with solar panel generated electricity provided by Owens Electric and Solar. There is absolutely no carbon footprint when a Tesla is plugged into this totally green system. Fuel sipping gasoline powered cars are the popular Mini Cooper (a BMW product) and the Smart Car, a Mercedes-Benz made car, both of which are capable of between 30 and 40 MPG. Smart is an acronym for Swateh Mercedes ART. The Stanford Solar Car Project car has been driven across Australia and the project continues to conduct research on solar powered automobiles. Michel Sasnett of Los Altos will exhibit his 1973 electric Porsche which he converted from conventional power. Robert E.Schilling of Menlo Park will exhibiit a 1983 Mercedes-Benz Diesel which is converted to run on biodiesel fuel.
Established in 1967, the Palo Alto Concours d'Elegance is an annual fundraising event of the Palo Alto Host Lions Club and the Palo Alto Lions Charities, Inc. With a goal of raising $100,000 per year, proceeds from the Concours are contributed to 35 community organizations.
